Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to make any art for a while.
The workload at my full time job as a graphic designer had massively increased, ironically when my teammate was on holidays. It got to a point where I had reached mental exhaustion, slumped at my work desk, unable to focus at 6:30pm. I decided to destress by doodling.
I took out a work pad and a black ballpoint pen. I had an urge to just draw… anything… without really thinking. Shapes and patterns flowed through my hand, things I don’t usually draw. I tried not to stop and look, nor think. I just wanted to keep going with the flow.
Eventually, this was the result of my doodle.
I showed the drawing to a few friends and tried to decipher it. What did any of this mean? What is my subconscious trying to tell me?
The very first thing I drew was a square box. Then a circle. Followed by the star. I think my mind was trying to portray myself as a shining star trapped inside a box.
I then drew a rainbow bridge leading to a ripple of water, raining onto an umbrella held by a hand coming out of a dark hole. I think that’s my hand holding the umbrella, protecting myself from the rain. The rain is only a few droplets, representing something that is only present in my current situation in small amounts. I believe this is to be the 4 x 12 hour days that I was working at the time.
Next, I drew the teddy bear holding a dragonball balloon kite. Honestly, I don’t know. lol I think this part of the drawing represents holding on to something that connects with my childhood – perhaps things I’ve learned?
Beside the teddy is the tree of life with two butterflies fluttering around the tree. The tree’s roots are deep, and the branches soft and fern-like. I think this symbolises two souls, emerging from the roots (previous life) and circle the tree (current life). Soulmates?
Lastly, there is an angry, black thunder cat. Because she is underground, I think this represents an energy waiting to emerge from within me.
In summary, my mind is weird. lol
