So it’s no secret that I adore art supplies, and because I’m a bit of a ‘Jack of all Trades’, I get to try a lot of different types. I’m obsessed with pigments and hues, and the way various paints react on paper. For example, by trying them out, I know that Daniel Smith paints are ‘living’, able to granulate in an unpredictable manner; Winsor & Newton in contrast are pretty dependable like a big work horse. Sennelier are loud and vibrant, while Schmincke are beautiful consistent.
For a long time I’d been traveling with an old W&N paint set with standard colours, and while it’s small and light enough, it didn’t really provide me with the shades I preferred. So I purchased myself and empty travel box and filled it up myself! In it I have some W&N, White Nights (Russian brand), and DS. I now have the colours I need, along with a tiny 2B pencil and travel brush. Add a small waterpaint sketch book and I’m set for my trip next week!
I’m hoping to focus on urban sketching, which I really want to be able to do but which I struggle with. Look at my hilariously funny attempt at a building XD
I guess in the end, it’s the fact that I’m trying out something so out of my comfort zone that counts.
