‘This piece took some thought and planning. I was worried that portraying the bottlebrush in colour would take away from the main subject, so I opted to leave it in graphite. Initially, the idea was to provide only an outline of the branch, similar to the studies I did of the wren and the New Holland Honey-eater, but in the end I decided that maintaining the level of detail for both bird and bottlebrush resulted in a more harmonious piece.’ – Lamice
